¡¡¡¡ Ò»¡¢ Introduction of UVC disinfection theory

¡¡¡¡ UVC disinfection system is based on the technology of advanced optics, microbiology, chemistry, mechanics, electronics, hydrodynamics, aerodynamics and civil engineering. The special designed ultraviolet lamps of C wave band (200 nm ¡Ü¦Ë¡Ü 280 nm, especially£Ô254nm) produce strong ultraviolet C, which is of high efficiency, high intensity and long lifetime. When bacteria, virus and other pathogens in the water, air or surface of solid are irradiated by UVC light of certain dosage, the DNA structure of pathogens can be destroyed (for example, dimerization of thymine, bond-broken, etc), and it inactivates pathogens in the water without using any chemical disinfectants. With the advantages of high efficiency, less space, low cost, user-friendly, large flow rate and no residual effect, UV technology is applied in many fields and becoming a main disinfection means in developed countries recently.

¡¡¡¡ ¶þ¡¢ Advantages of UVC Disinfection
¡¡¡¡ UVC water disinfection technology has been recognized to be a good one to kill the bacteria, virus and other pathogens by the world people. Compared with traditional disinfection technologies that adopt Chlorine, Bleaching Powder and Ozone, Newland UVC water disinfection systems have some particular advantages as follows:

¡¡¡¡ No.1 High effective sterilization Capability
¡¡¡¡ With inactivation rate higher than 99%,£­99.99%, UVC has unexampled inactivation efficiency, compared with other disinfection technologies . From Table 1, you can see UVC is effective at inactivating most bacteria and virus in one second. Compared with other chemical methods such as, chlorine, ozone etc. in 20 minutes-60 minutes for attaining the same effect, UVC only need a shorter contact time.

¡¡¡¡ No.2 High efficiency sterilization in extensive fields
¡¡¡¡ UVC is quite effective to inactivate most bacteria and virus as shown in Table 1. Besides, it is also effective for the disinfection of giardia and cryptosporidium. The water after UVC disinfection does not suffer the residual effect that can be harmful to humans or aquatic life.

¡¡¡¡ No.3 No Second Contamination
¡¡¡¡ UVC is a user-friendly physical process rather than a chemical disinfectant, and eliminates the unsafe and troublesome processes of chemical method to generate, handle, transport, or store toxic or corrosive chemicals. No residual effect that can be harmful to humans or aquatic life. And it doesn¡¯t change any component in water.
¡¡¡¡ It is a public common sense that chlorine disinfection, especially organic chloride brought forth by water and organic compound in water, causes cancer to people. And chloride in water can react in some conditions and cause poisonous compound to threaten aquatic life and water environment, the same as to ozone disinfection. A lot of smelly ozone which can¡¯t dissolve in water is volatilized into the air, is harmful to the health of working staff around there.

¡¡¡¡ No.4 Running Safe and Reliable
¡¡¡¡ Traditional disinfectants such as chloride or ozone, belonging to virulent, incendive and explosive substance, should be careful to use, because of using them to bring the latent threaten to the operator on spot, resident and environment. Chinese Police Department, Fire Control Department and environment protection department have the strict regulations of transportation, preservation and operation to these high risky things.
¡¡¡¡ These extremely add the mental burden and unsafe feeling of the users, operators and residents around there. Modern UVC disinfection system doesn¡¯t exist the kind of unsafe hidden trouble, and it is much more safe to the environment and operator.

¡¡¡¡ No.5 Low O&M Cost
¡¡¡¡ As usual, one kind of high efficiency technology always is related to high cost or high operation expense. But UVC technology is the exception. In 1990s, updating the core technology of UVC, UVC disinfection technology is the best effective in all disinfection methods. Furthermore, it is the easiest to operate and maintain and the running cost is the lowest, about £¤ 0.004 per ton or even less .So the rate of quality& price is the highest in all disinfection technologies. It has the merit of high efficiency compared with other disinfection technology as well as the merit of low cost& low operation expense.
¡¡¡¡ It is only about half cost of chlorine, 2/5 cost of chlorine adding de-chlorine, even only 1/9 cost of ozone while processing water flow of one thousand tons. Even if processing water flow of one million thousand tons, the investment cost& running expense of UVC disinfection technologies is lower than other ones.

¡¡¡¡ No.6 Easy to fix and operate
¡¡¡¡ UVC disinfection systems are designed to modularization. They are easy to fix, suitable for any fixing conditions on spot, not destroying the device, pipeline and construction framework. They only need to be got into the power supply, and that is to say, uninterruptedly running for 24 hours every day, 365 days every year. It is no need to stop the system while cleaning the lamps, and can be used uninterruptedly except routine maintenance for fixed time 1-2 hours. But the chlorine and ozone disinfection processes are complicated, requiring strictly to the operators. And any mistake can lower the disinfection effect, furthermore, cause serious accidents.

¡¡¡¡ No.7 Less Space, No Noise
¡¡¡¡ UVC disinfection process requires much less place than other methods. To disinfect purified water of 10,000 tons/day, it is only required about 4m2 place. To disinfect wastewater of 50,000 tons/day, it is only required about one channel(10 m2¡Á2 m2). Otherwise chemical disinfection methods need much more triple space of medicament touching pool than UVC disinfection methods. In addition, UVC disinfection device make no noise by the method of supplied water flowing automatically.

¡¡¡¡ No.8 Consecutive Large-scale Water Flow Disinfection
¡¡¡¡ Nowadays UVC disinfection technology has been applied into practice, water flow processed up to 1.5 million tons. Compared with UVC, it is hard to meet demands of more water flow for chlorine adding de-chlorine and ozone disinfection methods.

¡¡¡¡ No.9 Extensive Application Field
¡¡¡¡ In all disinfection technologies nowadays, there is not the same as to UVC, which is suitable for such extensive application fields. It can broadly be applied to several water disinfection fields (such as purified water, wastewater, seawater) and air disinfection fields. Meeting every walk of life's disinfection demands, its main application fields are:
¡¡¡¡ Purified water disinfection fields including tap water, second water supply, direct drinking water, pure water, aquiculture, food products &aquatic products process water, beverage water, pharmacy process water and electronic high-purified water, etc.
¡¡¡¡ Wastewater disinfection fields including town planning wastewater, reclaimed water, ¡¡¡¡ hospital sewage water, oil process water, etc.
¡¡¡¡ Cycle water disinfection fields including swimming pool water, fountain water, ¡¡¡¡ ¡¡¡¡ industrial cycling cooling-water, etc.
¡¡¡¡ Other disinfection fields, such as: shellfish depuration, irrigated farming, ¡¡¡¡ ¡¡¡¡ eliminating underwater algae at large-scale water flow, military base, field task, ¡¡¡¡ airplane, ship, submarine, central air-condition system.

¡¡¡¡ Èý¡¢Thirdly, UVC Disinfection Technology Compare With Several Traditional Disinfection Technology
¡¡¡¡ Table 2 gives modern UVC disinfection technology comparing with several traditional disinfection technologies. It overcomes the defect of modern traditional disinfection technology. In the process of disinfection, there are no need to add any chemical substances and no residual harmful substances in the water. There are a lot of merits including running safe, running dependability, fixing, and easy repair, especially low investment & operation expense and excellent disinfection effect. A lot of European countries, North America areas such as Canada and USA had separately modified the environmental laws in the 1990's.
